The Boston Project Ministries 2008

The Boston Project www.tbpm.org/   Boston Project Best 2-1

We have begun a partnership with The Boston Project Ministries, Dorchester, MA. The Boston Project Mission exists to “seek to renew urban neighborhoods physically, socially, and spiritually. We partner with local churches, community groups, and serve organizations to realize a shared vision for the neighborhood. The Boston Project Mission invests in at-risk and high-risk children and youth by providing programs that address their educational, social, and spiritual needs. The Boston Project assists low income homeowners and non-profit organizations by making urgent repairs and improvements to their properties.”

Our preschooler will support the Boston Project in “Pennies for a Playground.”

We believe that when we teach children to give money to God at a very young age it becomes as natural as learning to walk. As we partner with their parents to teach this valuable lesson, we have asked their parents to provide simple opportunities for the children to earn money.

Our elementary age children will partner with TBPM in numerous ways. It is our desire that by this partnership our children learn by serving hands-on, working side by side with their parents or small group shepherds various projects such as fall clean ups, collecting items for the TBPM annual yard sale, supplying and preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. We also collect monies and items such as healthy snacks and school supplies for the homework center.

Recap of The Boston Project Ministries Yard Sale

TCC’s fifth grade boys helped collect items for TBPM yard sale. With the help of Cheryl and Mike Alexander and Charlie Hughson, we collected TWO full truck loads of clothing, furniture and toys for their bi-annual yard sale. We would also like to thank all the families that donated items.  Please see letter below from TBPM.

“Hi Gail and Cheryl,
We just wanted to send along a HUGE thanks to you and the TCC family for your help with our fall yard sale.  We had two beautiful days this past weekend and we raised over $2,500 to further our work with neighborhood youth.  Your support was key to this success.  The donations were wonderful and blessed many families here in an act of redistribution.  Please pass along our thanks to everyone who contributed and the TCC missions committee.

Peace and blessings,
Paul for The Boston Project Family”

Children’s offerings to be given to The Boston Project Ministries

14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?  Can such faith save him?  15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.  16If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?  17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

18But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”  Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.      NIV James 2 Faith and Deeds

In December & January, we are inviting all children to bring in an offering each week to Live the Adventure.  The weekly offering will go to The Boston Project Ministries to distribute to families in Dorchester who are in financial need.  During this difficult economic time, many families are unable to pay their utility bills and face the prospect of having no electricity for heat or light this winter.

We’ve talked to the children about how they can help these families by bringing in an offering each Sunday and also by doing their part to save energy in their own homes.

Please ask your children how we’re doing in our efforts to donate money to families in Dorchester.  We’ll be showing them each week how their contributions are helping others in need.  Our mission is to inspire your children to see how God can use people of all ages to serve others.  Any questions can be directed to Gail Hughson, Director of Children’s Ministries or Cheryl Alexander, CM Mission Coordinator.
