This Sunday, June 28, at TCC

DON’T FORGET!! Summer Worship Schedule Begins this week - One service at 9:30A

This Sunday, our summer schedule begins with only 1 worship service at 9:30A.  We will have a children’s program for infants through children ENTERING grade 5 all summer long, but the Youth Service, for Middle and High School students, will take a break for the summer. (Please note this means those “graduating” fifth grade are expected to remain in the service with their parents).

Preaching This Sunday

Jim will preach a sermon called “Holy Discontent” this Sunday as the summer schedule begins at TCC. The message “Holy Discontent” was first preached by Bill Hybels, Pastor of Willow Creek Community Church at a Leadership Summit a year ago, and is offered to churches like ours to help promote the Leadership Summit coming up this August 6-7. Holy discontent with the status quo is what Pastors, church leaders and church members need in order for God to propel them to greater accomplishments for the Kingdom.  A vision of what God could do through our church must begin with dissatisfaction with how we are doing things now.

Jim’s message this Sunday will take the skeleton of Hybels’ address and pack it with the meat of application to our TCC situation. To see the original Hybels’ message, as well as six other messages posted for use in church promotion, you are encouraged to go to: www.willowcreek.com.

Good News Mystery Box Returns this Sunday!

The Good News Mystery Box will once again make an appearance at TCC. We used the Mystery Box several years ago when our children regularly began their Sundays in the worship service, and then were dismissed to Live the Adventure (LTA), but we discontinued it when we decided to have the children begin their Sunday at LTA. With children beginning worship in the sanctuary with their parents this summer, the Mystery Box returns.

The way it works is this: A child gets to take home the Mystery Box on a Sunday and bring it back the next week. They may place any object they like (except live snakes) in the box, and no one knows what it is until Pastor Jim, or the speaker of the day, opens it up in church. Jim then has to give to the children an impromptu object lesson based on what he finds in the box. Kate Brown will bring this summer’s first Mystery Box forward, and we will use it many Sundays throughout the summer.

Building on Higher Ground, Informational Meeting, 10:45A

Directly after the service this Sunday, there will be a short informational meeting in the Sanctuary regarding the state of our BOHG campaign. There will be a coffee hour/ fellowship time open to all after the meeting.

Please note, only partial childcare will be available during the meeting itself. Infants and preschoolers can remain in their classrooms (unless picked up by a parent); while children entering K – grade 5 must be picked up by a parent, and brought into the Sanctuary for the brief meeting. This will allow most of those who work in Children’s Ministry to attend the meeting also.

For their safety and the safety of others, please do not allow your children to run around unattended during this meeting. (Because of Kid’s Week preparations, the gym will be off limits to everyone on Sunday.)

TCC Softball Game and Potluck Cookout, June 28, Cochituate Field, Wayland, 3:00-6:00P

A little softball, a little sun, a little food, lots of friends and fun - let’s enjoy the afternoon together! If you want to play in the game (16 years-old and up) contact Kevin Johnson at kjohnson@outsmartinc.com so he can put you on the roster. The potluck cookout part is pretty simple. We’ll be meeting at Jim and Dawn Gunn Brown’s house which is right across from Cochituate Field. We’ll have a grill going. You bring hotdogs, hamburgers, salads, drinks, etc. - whatever you want to share. Bring a lawn chair, too. This is a great way to connect with old friends, make new friends, relax, laugh and enjoy the day. Come and be part of the fun!

Kids Week, June 29 – July 2

          Begins on Monday

Camp Son Rock runs from June 29 - July 2.  Please join us in praying that God will bring more campers from our community and more counselors to share the message.

If you haven’t already registered, stop by the Children’s Ministry check-in area to pick up a registration form or go online to www.tccwayland.org, Children’s Ministries and follow the link.

          Safety Notice: Camper Footwear

“Messy Backyard,” “Son Rock Hockey,” “Dodge Ball Bowling,” and “Fish Flag Tag,” are some of the games your children will be playing during recreation time at Camp Son Rock.

We would encourage your children to wear sneakers, not sandals, flip-flops, or shoes with black soles, so they may fully participate in the recreation activities in the gymnasium.

            2-Liter Soda Bottles Needed

If you have any that you could donate to the program to assist in our activities, we would love it.  Please bring rinsed bottle to the church office on Friday, or to the church lobby on Sunday. Thanks.

Looking for faux Christmas Trees and Pup Tents

We are looking for decorations to make our Kid’s Week pre-school rooms look “outdoor campy.” Do you have a small faux Christmas tree we could borrow (no lights or decorations please)? Or a child-size pup tent? Please contact Diane Newcomb at diane.newcomb@comcast.net or 508-653-6857. Thank you.

          Feeding the Kids’ Week Volunteers

Please note that we have many adults and teenagers (50+) who volunteer during the week to make Kids’ Week possible. We would love to be able to offer the workers a variety of refreshments each day. Specifically donations of: fruit (lg. platter), bagels, cream cheese, muffins/breads, donuts, cookies, veggies/dip (lg. platter), cupcakes, cheese/crackers, would be greatly appreciated.

We also need 8-10 salads for the family cookout Thursday evening. If you can help provide refreshments, contact Leslie Allison:  lsallison2001@yahoo.com, (c) 617-312-6427, (h) 508-276-1147. Thank you!

Ongoing/Upcoming Events

Women’s Psalms Study Continues on Thursday Evenings

We meet in Phillips Hall at 7P. Books are still available for those of you who have not yet picked one up ($6 cash or check payable to TCC).   Next week's focus is Lesson 3 and Psalm 40. We look forward to seeing you then, as we continue to consider who God is, what He does and how we will respond. Even if you have not had a chance to finish the lesson, please still come! If your plans have changed and you are now unable to participate, please let us know.

Charlotte Eagles Soccer Camp hosted by Trinity Church, Bolton July 6-10, 9A-12P

Campers will be given a comprehensive program which covers the fundamentals of the sport while developing their enjoyment and passion for the world’s most popular game. Campers will also go through a series of character-building sessions with their coaches using Christian principles. The camp is designed to teach strong fundamentals while maintaining an unrivaled fun-filled event atmosphere. Please reach out to a friend or two and have them join you during this fun filled week.

Willow Creek Leadership Summit, August 6-7, Grace Chapel, Lexington

This is a tremendous opportunity for all of us to be exposed to the leadership insights and vision of some of the world’s best leaders. And, it is designed to stir vision and provide practical help to us as we strive to follow Christ and be His salt and light and leaven in this chaotic and broken world. We have access to a discounted registration cost of $135.00 per person (an almost 50% discount) if we register by June 30. To register and receive the discounted price, let Lou know of your interest by signing up on the back of the Communications Card on Sunday or by contacting him at lsoiles@tccwayland.org or 508-358-7717, ext 402.

Youth Ministries

Youth Summer Programming

There will be no Sunday Morning Youth Program, small groups or PF in the summer. However, leaders will continue to meet weekly as we talk about ways we can connect with the youth in the midst of all the vacations. Our leadership team intends to use this summer for some much needed planning and prayer. We believe God is at work in the lives of our youth. We look forward to the summer and can’t wait for the fall!

Allagash Wilderness Waterway Leadership Development Program, June 30-July 8

The TCC Youth are taking a 9-day wilderness trip with the purpose of developing some of the untapped leadership potential in our rising sophomores and juniors.  A group of 8 are leaving Wayland early on the morning of June 30 and return the evening of July 8.  The trip will be led by Samantha Bohall, and Doug and Karen Bunn.  Samantha has co-led a group down the Allagash for the past 2 years.  She is Wilderness First Aid certified, holds a Maine trip leaders permit, and is a certified lifeguard and current with her CPR for the professional rescuer.  Please pray for safety and protection for the group as well as God’s enlightenment and Holy Spirit to be upon them.

          Teen Camp – Aug 9-14

Teen Camp will run from Aug 9-14.   It is open to those entering Grade 7 through current seniors. More information on the specifics of this trip will be available soon.

Missions

Missionary Booklet

The Missionary Committee has developed a "Missionary Booklet" to help the congregation get to know the 45 missionaries TCC is helping to support.   The booklet contains a brief description of the way each is dedicating their lives to the Lord.

The booklets are available on the Mission’s Table in the lobby, and each family is encouraged to take one and read about how the Lord's work is being done in the mission’s field.

TCC views missions as an essential ministry of our church and our individual members. We are committed to the mobilization of our own resources (prayer, monetary, and human) for the objective of reaching all peoples of the world for Christ. The church has pledged to do its part in fulfilling the Lord's commission through its body of believers, by corporately supporting individual missionaries and organizations through prayer, monetary and physical gifts.

Camp Fund Donations for Missionary's Son

Dede Estivene, the 14 year old son of Pastor Dieuseul in Haiti, is coming to the U.S. this summer for 5 weeks. He will be attending Brookwoods and our Teen Camp. Would you consider helping to defray the costs by contributing to his camp fund? Please contact Kim Antonell @ kimbakimba123@yahoo.com or 508-358-4770 or Pastor Jim pastorj@tccwayland.org.   Thanks so much!

Children’s Ministry Missions – Shoe Collection

The Williams family is coordinating a collection of 500 pairs of shoes to donate to

children in the Dominican Republic. Please bring new or gently used shoes of any size (no sandals or flip flops) and place them in the container near the CM Welcome Desk.

It would be helpful if you could tie the laces together, or put each pair in a separate plastic

bag so the pairs stay together.

Volunteer Opportunities

Summer Children’s Ministry Help Needed

Please help us give our regular staff a much deserved break this summer.                            All adults and youth entering grade 6 are welcome to help, but we need to have your safety forms on file. Also, for planning purposes, we must know ahead of time which Sundays you are willing to work. Please contact Gail Hughson at gailh@tccwayland.org  or call the church x208 no later than the Friday before the Sunday you are able to volunteer.  Thank you!

          Grounds Maintenance

We need people to water plants every day of the week. Mornings or evenings are best times; this will probably take an hour or two at minimum. Contact the church office: 508-358-7717.

Coffee Hour Hosts

There are openings for coffee hour hosts throughout the summer. Please volunteer as this is the only way to provide coffee and snacks. Sign-up this Sunday on the bulletin board in Phillips Hall.
