Welcome to the New Year at TCC!
A warm welcome in a cold January to the New Year, 2009 at TCC. We will begin this new year in our “home away from home” at Wayland Middle School, but in a few short weeks be moving back into our church buildings at 53 Cochituate Road. What a joy that will be after one and a half years!
This Sunday we meet at 9:30 and 11:00 and Pastor Jim is preaching this month on “Growing Up Spiritually,” a series of messages that continues the theme of spiritual transformation. We have just concluded four weeks preaching and practicing our Sabbath keeping, which is one of the many disciplines given in the Bible for the maintenance of our spiritual lives. The goal of our spiritual life is to become more like Jesus Christ, who saved us and planted His life in us, and desires that seed to blossom and flourish. How does that happen, and what can we do to encourage it?
Sunday’s message is called “Becoming Spiritual Grown-Ups.” Too many of us settle for a faith that is childish or adolescent, but we should all want to be grown ups. It takes discipline to grow up – spiritual discipline. The simple fact, as John Ortberg tell us, is that we do not become spiritual by trying, but by training. Jim’s message will give us an orientation and some hands on help in developing spiritual disciplines in our lives.
Please be aware of the excellent class Pastor Lou is teaching on this topic. Making Space for God – The Journey of Spiritual Formation is meeting in Room 143 at 9:30 on Sunday morning and all are welcome. What you will get is a thorough presentation and discussion on the classic spiritual disciplines (study, reflection, prayer, silence and more) as well as some practice in implementing them. This class is a fine counterpoint to the preaching going on right now, so you should plan on attending it at 9:30 and the worship service at 11:00.
Please Don’t Forget to Return Your Faith Promise Card
Thank you to all who have turned in a Faith Promise Card. If you have not yet done so, or did not receive the 2009 Stewardship packet, please stop by the church office or the Welcome Table. We’d appreciate hearing from everyone in the TCC family.
2009 Giving Envelopes
To all TCC donors: Please pick up your 2009 offering envelopes at the Welcome Table beginning this week. If you would like a set of envelopes, but don’t see one there, please leave your name or contact Anne Keyes at ext. 203 or contributions@tccwayland.org.
Moving help needed after second service this Sunday!
Our church truck has broken down! There is a major problem with its engine, and we are unsure we will have the use of it for the rest of the time we spend at the middle school (only a few more weeks!). Luckily we’ve been able to keep things at the middle school over the last two weeks.
But this Sunday we desperately need volunteers willing to load up their cars after the second service, drive back to the church campus and off load things into Bradford Hall. For the next few Sundays we may need this help both to load early in the morning before services and then again after.
If you can help, please contact Jim Santamaria at hermits@comcast.net or 774-232-2758 or Debbie Wilson at pastcare@tccwayland.org or ext 209. – Or just show up at the Welcome Table on Sunday after second service. Thank you!
Volunteers Needed for Coffee Hour this Sunday and throughout January
Remember, if no one signs-up, there will be no coffee hour! If someone is willing to make the coffee and clean-up, that would still allow us to have fellowship time.
If you do supply snacks, they don’t have to be expensive or fancy. All instructions and other supplies are provided – please consider volunteering!

Wednesday Morning Bible Study
Wednesday Morning Bible Study resumes this Wednesday at 9:30 A in Bradford Hall. All are welcome to attend.
Gospel Choir Begins Wednesday
The TCC Gospel Choir, forming for the opening of the new church building, begins rehearsals this Wednesday evening. All singers who can match pitch, from teenagers on up, are invited to come and join under the leadership of Ben Keyes. This promises to be a fun and energetic musical experience for our whole church. Rehearsals are in Bradford Hall from 7:00 – 8:30 beginning this Wednesday and continuing through January. Questions? Contact Beth Pocock at ext 213 or beth@tccwayland.org.
TWIGS Starting up Next Week
Daytime TWIGS (9:15-11:10 A on Thursdays) will be meeting at Kristin Neprud’s home (34 Pilgrim Path, Wayland) on Jan 8, Jan 15 and possibly Jan 22. Parking is available at the VFW Hall across from the Neprud's.
Evening TWIGS (7:00- 8:30 P on Thursdays) will continue to meet at Bradford Hall beginning next Thursday, Jan 8th.
In both morning and evening sessions, we will be continuing our study in the book of Hebrews. Newcomers are welcome to join TWIGS, however pre registration is required, especially if childcare is needed.

The Boston Project Mission
The K-5 Live the Adventure kids have been collecting money for The Boston Project Mission (TBPM) in Dorchester. In December, the kids brought in offerings totaling $112.41 which will be sent to TBPM to help residents that are struggling to pay for heat and electricity. We will continue collecting money for this cause through the end of January.
Girls Gathering
Girls Gathering will reconvene on Wednesday Jan 7th at 5:15 p.m. We trust that you are enjoying time with your families and having a break from school and other activities,
but hope that you are eager to restart our weekly gatherings at Gail's as we grow our relationships with the Lord and with each other. Hope to see you there!
Additional Ushers Needed
Ushers are needed at the Second Service, for either the 1st Sunday or 4th Sunday of each month. It’s an easy, once a month way to serve the church. For more information, please contact Debbie Wilson at pastcare@tccwayland.org or ext. 209
Gift for the Congregation
As a thank-you for all of your patience and flexibility this past year as we have gone through a major renovation and expansion of our church campus, we have put together a special gift for each of you to show our appreciation. Please stop by the Welcome Table on Sunday to pick up your thank-you gift. We hope it will be your daily companion in the New Year.
Winter Weather and Possible Church Cancellations
