Dr. Robert Ojemann with the Lord

Bob Ojemann died at home on Wednesday, March 3 after a seven year battle with cancer. A private family burial service will be held this weekend, and a Memorial service is being planned for March 27 here at TCC. More details will be forthcoming. We pray God’s peace for Jean, their four sons and the rest of their family. May his soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of Christ, rest in peace.

This Sunday

Sunday Morning HYMNSING at Both Services

This Sunday we are pleased to have High Street Hymns at TCC. The High Street Hymn project grew out of the music ministry at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlottesville, VA, and is now traveling the country, introducing new hymns, re-tuning hymns (setting old hymns to new tunes) and reintroducing little known classic hymns. The five men who will be at TCC are touring New England and will be leading our worship services at both hours. They will have CDs available in the lobby, for a suggested donation of $10.

The 2000 year old tradition of hymns in Christian worship is alive and well in the North American church. As distinguished from anthems, worship songs and chorales, hymns “give us a map of the landscape of faith,” in the words of Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury. Hymns are songs that must be sung corporately, because when we sing them together they give us a sense of our common identity, beliefs, values and resolves. This Sunday will be given much to music, so please do spread the word and invite your friends to this unique morning.

Celebrating the Lord’s Supper and God’s New Society series continues

We will also celebrate the Lord’s Supper on Sunday, and Pastor Jim will bring a concise message “To Know This Love,” the seventh in the series “God’s New Society.” The text is Ephesians 3.14-21.

A Thank You from the Pococks

Beth and Jim would like to thank everyone for all the loving support they received following the recent loss of Beth’s father. Your cards, meals and kindness were all deeply appreciated!

Music and Worship

Gordon College Choir at TCC on March 14

The 55 voice Gordon College Concert Choir will join us in worship on Sunday, March 14. This excellent choir is completing its spring tour and sings at TCC as its final stop, and we are thrilled to have them.

Children’s Ministries

Children’s Ministries, Easter Help - Might you be able to help for ONE hour?

We are looking for additional volunteers on Easter to welcome visiting families and care for their children. We need additional help in the infant-toddler room, preschool rooms, K- grade 5 rooms and the check-in desk for both services.  If you serve in Children’s Ministries at the 9:30A service, we’ll care for your children during the second service (and if you serve in Children’s Ministries at the 11A service, we’ll care for your children during the first service!) so you may attend church. Please look at your schedule, pray and contact Gail Hughson if God is calling you to minister our visitors this Easter. (gailh@tccwayland.org or 508-358-7717 x 310)

Upcoming Events

Creeds Class continues

It’s not too late to join the Creeds Class, being taught by Pastor Lou! The group meets on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:15P in Room 205. All are welcome to attend. This class is an excellent way to look at orthodox Christian theology as well as some of the history of the church and deepen our personal faith and knowledge as well.

Men’s Retreat March 12 – 13, SIGN UP NOW!

You can still sign up to join Mark Shepard and dozens of other TCC men at Toah Nipi for this 24 hour retreat on the topic Vocations and God: No Easy Answers. There will be fun, fellowship, manly activities, and the presentation and discussion is on how we live out our lives in the Kingdom of God through our vocations. Brochures and registration forms may be found at the Welcome Table this Sunday or through the church office or website. The cost is $95, and some scholarship money is available. Contact Lou Soiles lsoiles@tccwayland.org.

Announcements

Last Saturday’s Holy Grounds Coffee House a Success!

The Holy Grounds Coffee House this past Saturday was a tremendous success with really great Christian a cappella music from Harvard, Wellesley College, and Boston College, as well as the Madrigals from Wayland High School! The house was packed with over 240 people and we received over $1,700 in donations, most of which will be sent to the Hospital of Hope in Port au Prince, Haiti. Thank you to all the volunteers - in advertising, sign making, set up and take down, food and drinks, and sound and lights who made it such a success. Jeff Simmons took some great pictures which will be up soon in the Lobby. To volunteer to help with the next coffee house on March 27th - please talk to Doug Sacra.

Tidings Submission Deadline, March 10

The deadline for TCC’s print newsletter Tidings, due in homes before Palm Sunday, is March 10. Please submit any articles or news items to Debbie Wilson: pastcare@tccwayland.org before that date. Thanks!

March Madness:  Mad to Visit!

Our Visitation Ministry is recruiting in two ways:  1) If you know of anyone who may be in need of occasional or regular visits please call the office and let Debbie Wilson know.  2)  If you are interested in reaching out to our TCC community as a Visitation Minister (we visit the confined, recuperating etc.) please fill out a "TCC Visitation Ministry Opportunities" card from the bulletin board by the north entrance and put it in the box on the Welcome Table or phone Jim Santamaria 774-232-2758, Margie Langsdorf 508-545-0228 or Nancy Germain 508-655-3120.

Easter Lilies - Envelopes available

Donate an Easter lily to celebrate Christ’s Resurrection, or in loving memory, honor or celebration of someone special in your life. We would fill the sanctuary with their elegance, beautiful smell and significance. It is only $10 dollars and you can take one home after the second service or leave it for delivery to a shut in. Fill out an envelope at the Welcome Table on Sunday.

Resurrecting the Flower Guild

Join the Flower Guild and enjoy the pleasure of working with beautiful flowers and some truly expert arrangers. We work in pairs to do the arranging, (so don’t feel you have to be an expert) and get together several times a year for planning and fellowship. Contact Susan Thomas, the new Chairwoman of the Flower Guild, at 978-443-5940 or susan@thomasandcompany.com, or Debbie Wilson at the church office.

Flower Donations

Donate flowers to be placed in the Sanctuary niches on a specific Sunday to honor the memory or celebrate the blessing of someone special. Cost is $60-85, depending on flower choices.  After Easter, the schedule is wide open. Also, after the second service we’ll make a bouquet for you to enjoy at home and several to be used to spread the beauty and joy of flowers to others through our Visitation Ministry. Contact the church office for more information or to reserve a date.

Infant Baptism and Dedications, April 11

A service of baptism or dedication for children is being planned for Sunday, April 11. Any church member wanting their child baptized or dedicated is invited to participate. Please call the church office or go to the Welcome Table this Sunday for more information and/or to let them know you’d like to participate.

L’Abri Fellowship Lecture Series

L’Abri Fellowship, 49 Lynbrook Road, Southborough, MA, is offering a winter lecture series on Friday evenings, open to the public at no charge. This Friday, March 5 at 8:00 pm, Ben Keyes will present “Creeds, Why We Need Them and Why We Think We Don’t”. Please refer to the bulletin board in Phillips Hall for the full lecture schedule.

Coffee Hour Hosts NEEDED

If you enjoy having a cup of coffee while chatting with others between services, please sign-up your small group to host a coffee hour! A new sign up sheet has just been posted and there are plenty of open dates. See the board at the Welcome Table, or call the church office.

Winter Weather and Possible Church Cancellations

You will hear of any plans to cancel or change services by calling the church office (508-358-7717), checking the front page of the website or listening to WBZ 1030 on the AM dial.
